What is it like working with me?

Clients describe me as warm, calm, kind and perceptive. I’m genuinely curious about you and want you to be curious about what’s going on for you before, during and after your coaching sessions.

We start with you contacting me to ask a question or request a free, no obligation, introductory chat via zoom. In that meeting we’ll spend around 30 minutes finding out a little about each other, exploring what you’d like to get from coaching, and seeing whether my coaching style is right for you. If it is, then you can start booking hour-long sessions. You’ll initially pay just for the first two sessions. The frequency is up to you - 1 to 4 weeks between each session works for most people. Sessions are available during office hours, plus some limited evening and weekend availability.

The G.R.A.C.E 5-Step Coaching Process

The exact structure and content of our sessions will depend on who you are and what problems, challenges or opportunities you want to work on. However, I have a high-level process which I’ve found delivers sustainable, transformational results for all types of people and scenarios, which I’ve outlined below.

  • Goal

What is the problem, opportunity or challenge you are facing, and what outcomes would you like from this coaching experience?

You might have a crystal clear goal already, or you might want to spend some time shaping it up further.

  • Reflection

I have a variety of conversation starters and simple psychology models we can use to support your reflections, covering your nature, nurture, experiences and current circumstances. I’ll be curious and non-judgmental, and encourage you to be the same.

  • Awareness

Time invested in shaping your goals and reflecting on who you are is time invested in deepening your awareness of yourself and others. Deepening awareness increases emotional intelligence, which is essential to managing your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, motivating yourself, and influencing others.

This step is essential to transformational change.

  • Choice

Based on the work you’ve done here, what choices are available to you now? Are there new options? Which seem most appealing, realistic, sustainable? What would you have to do to take them forward?

  • Experiment

Are you going to experiment with a major change now, or start by tweaking something a bit to see what happens? Either way, experimenting based on informed choices is what moves you towards your goal.

This includes reflecting with kindness and curiosity on your experiences as you experiment, using those reflections to further deepen your awareness, choices and next experiments.

I am probably not the right person for you right now if…

… for whatever reason, you would be more comfortable with a coach who is solely transactional and task-focussed, e.g. a traditional ‘GROW model’ coach. There are lots of coaches out there who operate at a transactional level and may be a better choice for you if the psychology and emotional intelligence angle is not right for you at this time.

… your mental health has deteriorated to the extent that you are at imminent risk of burnout or a mental health crisis. If you think this applies to you, or if your loved ones tell you they think it applies to you, I encourage you to see your GP in the first instance before starting coaching.
